Over the last two weeks our decision-making crew has been discussing our first requests for support from the A-Fund. We were not able to reach a consensus, so last week was dedicated to a simple majority vote. And here we are, ready to report the results.
We’ve decided to send 50 euros to the Libera Community Space based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is organized by a group of anarchist-minded people in a horizontal and egalitarian way. They promote issues such as gender & sexual liberation, economic equality, and other socio-ecological issues, be it in forms of writings, arts, or social movement. At the moment, they are looking for a bigger space and asked the Fund to donate to their fundraiser. Although A-Fund primarily helps activists and groups that suffer from repression, the decision-making crew voted to give a symbolic amount in solidarity with the efforts of our comrades from Indonesia.
Another request reached us from Hamilton, Canada. There, a comrade named Cedar was arrested in an aftermath of The “Locke Street Riot” that was a collective expression of rage, not only against the rapid gentrification of Hamilton, but against capitalism and the violent world of alienation it fosters. They are charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offense (unlawful assembly while masked). Cedar was refused bail and stays in jail. On this page their comrades are collecting money for their legal defense. The decisions crew voted to send 124,49 euros to support Cedar.

One more person that received our support was an anarchist from Crimea Evgeni Karakashev. On February 1, 2018, Karakashev was detained, and on February 2, 2018, arrested on suspicion of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 282 (the incitement of hatred and enmity) and Part 2 of Art. 205.2 (public calls for terrorism) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to the investigation, Karakashev published a video on one of his pages in social network «VKontakte» at the end of 2014, which allegedly calls for terrorism. In addition, according to the order, in January 2017, he posted from another account in a chat room for 35 people a text that contains signs of “propaganda of the ideology of violence” and “calls for terrorist activities”. We decided to send Evgeni 124,49 euros for financing legal support. Find more information and make your personal donation here.
